WP2 Czech findings presented at the Ombudsman's office
25 October 2024
On 10 October 2024, the Czech team presented its findings at the Ombudsman's office.
The results from the analysis of Czech migration policies and the analysis of interviews with experts were presented by Lucie Novotná. The aim of the presentation was to inform professionals involved in handling migration-related cases about the consequences of the securitised and restrictive approach to migrants. The Ombudsman’s office assists foreigners facing issues with visas, residence permits in the Czech Republic, or asylum procedures. The presentation focused on the securitised and restrictive approach to migration, highlighting its consequences: the social closure of the Vietnamese community, their dependence on intermediaries, and the significant language barriers they face.
At the end of the presentation, possible solutions for better conditions for Vietnamese migrants in the Czech Republic were shared, but according to the findings and most discussants, this would involve improved integration practices.
Many insightful ideas and suggestions on this important issue were exchanged. The Czech team is very happy to have been able to share their findings in such a context!
