Maruja M.B. Asis

Principal Investigator

Maruja Milagros B. Asis is Director of the Scalabrini Migration Center and Editor of the Asian and Pacific Migration Journal. She is a sociologist with more than 30 years of research experience on international migration and social transformation with a special focus on the Asian region. Her research and publications explore the themes of gender, family and migration; migration and development; and migration governance. Her previous research on the Philippines-EU migration corridor focused on Italy- and Spain-based Filipino migrants’ associations and their transnational ties to the Philippines and the exploration of two-way migration between the Philippines and Europe.

She is the principal investigator of the AspirE Project in the Philippines. The Philippine team will work on WP2, 3 and 4.
