The Dragon meets the Lion in Lisbon

4 March 2024

On February 10, Chinese people all over the world celebrated the entry into the New Year of Dragon. The Chinese and the Portuguese communities came together to celebrate the new year in Lisbon’s municipal square with a spectacular dragon and lion dance and the Lisbon-based AspirE team was there to witness it!

The dragon and the lion are both auspicious and benevolent figures in the Chinese culture and whoever is lucky enough to meet them will have a prosperous and fortunate year ahead. Both dances are performed on festive occasions to chase away evil spirits and bestow good luck upon people.
