Policy workshop on “Enhancing the integration of scientific research into migration policy formulation”

11 September 2025

The Vietnamese diaspora is now present in over 130 countries and territories, with an estimated 5.3 million people, making it one of the world’s largest and most diverse communities. This diaspora encompasses contract workers, international students, marriage and family migrants, professionals, and business people, all contributing to Vietnam’s global connections and socio-economic development.

A recent workshop on Vietnam’s migration policies toward the EU and East Asia provided a valuable platform to:

  • Present research findings on Vietnam’s migration policies;

  • Foster academic dialogue and experience sharing among key stakeholders on migration governance;

  • Clarify the role of migration research in providing evidence to support effective policymaking.

The event brought together around 85 participants, including policy makers, government officials, scholars, and representatives from universities, research institutes, and NGOs. AspirE team members of IS-VASS and VAPEC presented research papers and insights.

Throughout the workshop, participants shared valuable experiences, lessons learned, and practical solutions for strengthening migration governance. Discussions emphasised the critical link between scientific research and evidence-based policymaking, underscoring that complex migration challenges require coordinated efforts across sectors and countries. Participants also highlighted the importance of researchers’ active involvement in informing policies, fostering cooperation, and facilitating knowledge exchange to achieve sustainable and inclusive migration outcomes.
