Migration Conversations with Pietro Genovese

21 March 2025

On 18 March 2025, the Scalabrini Migration Center (SMC) hosted an exciting event titled "Migration Conversations", featuring Pietro Genovese, a researcher from the University of Bologna

Philippines-Italy connections have been cemented and strengthened by Filipino migration to Italy since the 1970s, When migration happens, it can initiate other exchanges which contribute to continuing ties. In his presentation, Pietro talked about an orphanage in Dumaguete City in the Philippines which was founded by an Italian -Filipino couple.  This project receives financial and other kinds of support from an Italy-based NGO, “Isla ng Bata” (Children’s Island).  Volunteers from Italy regularly visit the orphanage and participate in various initiatives to promote the welfare of children.

The conversation offered valuable perspectives on transnational cooperation in development programs between NGOs in Italy and the Philippines, sparking engaging discussions with the audience.

SMC extends its thanks to Pietro Genovese and all participants for contributing to this enriching exchange. For more information about this event, click HERE.

Note: "Migration Conversations" is a series of events [e.g., forum, talks, webinars] organised by SMC with colleagues and partners working on migration and migration-related projects. The photos were taken by SMC.
