Migration Conversations with Jay Mar Albaos

The Scalabrini Migration Center (SMC) welcomed Mr. Jay Mar Albaos on 18 November 2025 for a new session of the recurring event entitled "Migration Conversations", where he shared insights from his work as an anthropologist and artistic researcher based in Belgium.

His presentation, titled A Personal Attempt to Note Down Migrant Precarity in Flemish Belgium: The Other is (Always) Angry, drew on his recently published article of the same name. Through autoethnography and artistic immersion, Jay examined the lived experiences of migrant precarity in Flemish Belgium, offering both personal and analytical reflections. He is currently a PhD candidate at the LUCA School of Arts (Ghent) and KU Leuven.

The session brought together colleagues from government and academia, fostering a rich discussion on advocacy, cultural diversity, and the ways in which research findings can inform and shape public policy.
