Interview of Kwanchanok Jaisuekun in a Finnish magazine

In an interview with Iso Numero (Finnish magazine) in November 2024, Kwanchanok talked about the phenomenon of Thai berry pickers migrating to Finland.

Drawing from her experience as an AspirE researcher, she compared the decision to migrate as akin to buying a lottery ticket—risky but potentially life-changing. “Berry pickers are fully aware of the uncertainties, but for many, it’s a chance to escape financial struggles and improve their lives,” Kwanchankok explained. She emphasised that while economic hardship drives migration, a stronger political and economic landscape in Thailand could reduce the need for such desperate measures.

Kwanchankok concluded with a question: "How can we create an environment where people no longer feel compelled to leave their homeland in search of better opportunities, despite knowing the risks?"
