1 November 2023

Dr. Asuncion Fresnoza-Flot (AspirE main Principal Investigator) has been appointed as EASt (MSH-ULB) director for the academic year 2023-2024 as from October. EASt (ULB Centre for East Asian Studies) is the Research Centre devoted to the study of East Asia at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB).

Established in 2016 under the auspices of the ULB’s Maison des Sciences Humaines (MSH), EASt shares its mission to highlight the importance of the Humanities and Social Sciences and to emphasize the need for their interdisciplinary cooperation in the process of understanding the world, both in the past and the present. As a catalyst for advancing research on East Asia at the ULB, EASt organizes guest lectures, seminars, conferences and workshops on a whole range of topics related to one of the most dynamic regions in the world. EASt, a unique initiative within the Belgian Frenchspeaking academic community, is located in the heart of Brussels. We are ideally positioned to reach out to students, policy makers, and the wider community of Brussels residents who are interested in East Asian history, culture and philosophy. Rooted in both original research and teaching, EASt’s current projects focus mainly, but not exclusively, on East Asian Youth’s Changing Values and Social Norms, Occupation and Use of Public Space in East Asia; Production and Circulation of Knowledge in East Asia. Since 2017, EASt has been a member of GIS Asie, the French Network for Asian Studies. Find out more about EASt here.
