15 October 2025

AspirE warmly invites you to the screening of the documentary "Blood Berries | หมากไม้" (English subtitles), produced by AspirE’s Thai collaborator The Isaan Record. The film follows the journeys of Thai migrant berry pickers working in Finland and Sweden, offering a rare and intimate look into their lived experiences within the wild berry industry.

📅 Date: Thursday 30 October 2025
⏱️ Time: 17:00–19:00
📍 Location: Think Lounge, University of Helsinki (Yliopistonkatu 4)

In recent years, reports in the media have exposed cases of exploitation among Thai citizens recruited to harvest wild berries in the Nordic countries. The documentary goes beyond headlines to reveal what happens when the dream of earning a better income in Europe turns into hardship. Filmed over three years, the documentary portrays the personal stories of pickers from Isaan, Thailand’s most deprived region, capturing their struggles, resilience, and hopes for the future.

Following the screening, a Q&A discussion in English will explore the issues raised by the film and the wider realities of the wild berry industry.

The event is free of charge. More details, in particular regarding panelists, will soon be annouced.
