AspirE joins 'Isan Lives in Motion' Exhibition at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre
31 July 2025

From 19 to 31 August 2025, Mahidol University is organising "Isan Lives in Motion", a public exhibition and seminar at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) exploring the rich and complex culture of migration in Thailand’s Isan region. The event will be held bilingually in Thai and English, and aims to engage a wide audience with the lived experiences, cultural expressions, and socio-economic dynamics that shape migration from Isan.
Organised as part of Mahidol University’s dissemination efforts, the exhibition and accompanying roundtable discussion will situate contemporary migration, including seasonal wild berry picking in Finland, within the broader context of Thailand’s agrarian transition and deepening economic inequality over the past fifty years. The 2-week event will feature a rich tapestry of materials, including personal objects, photographs, news articles, migration regulations, songs, and moving images such as video diaries from the AspirE project and a trailer from The Isaan Record's forthcoming documentary.
While the exhibition encompasses a broad cultural and historical view, findings from the AspirE project, especially those related to transnational migration and lived experiences, will form an important part of the narrative. This collaborative effort aims to foster public dialogue and deepen understanding of the Isan culture of migration among diverse audiences.
