AspirE findings from Finland presented at a seminar on temporary labour migration in EU Agriculture

On 7 March 2025, Minna Seikkula, from Tampere University, represented the AspirE project at the research seminar “(Temporary) Labour Migration and Agriculture in the EU: Time, Borders, and Vulnerabilities" organised by the ERC project Birds of Passage.

The seminar explored how spatiotemporal elements such as temporariness, shifting borders, and labour market demands shape migrant labour governance across the EU, and how these regulatory arrangements produce vulnerability for workers in agriculture. Minna's contribution offered key insights into the structural mechanisms underpinning seasonal labour migration in Finland’s berry sector and their broader implications for EU labour mobility with her talk entitled Finnish berries, Thai workers: Shifting practices for state‑facilitated cheap, seasonal labour.
